An Open Letter to Wayne Allard

Friday, May 23, 2008

Dear Mr. Allard,

Once again you have seen fit to fail the citizens of Colorado, the United States, and the brave men and women who serve our nation. You, along with 22 other military-hating Republicans, voted against the GI Bill of 2008. You and the other Republican chicken-hawks have voted to deny well deserved educational benefits to the men and women who have volunteered to place themselves in harms way.

Is this vote a fluke? Have you in the past supported measures that would improve the benefits and the treatment or our returning veterans? Sadly the answer to both these questions is a resounding no. Not once during your time in the Senate have you voted in support of the armed forces and America's veterans. Not once have you introduced or voted for legislation that would aid and benefit our soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen.

For the past 10 years, you have represented the good citizens of Colorado in the United States Senate by repeatedly voting against our troops. At the same time you, and other corporate war-mongering Republicans, have lambasted and berated Democrats and liberals for wanting to bring our men and women home. You and the other Bush lackeys in Washington are quite willing to pull the military trigger, but when the time comes to support those you helped to send into combat, where are you? Where is all your big talk and bloviating now?

You, Mr. Allard are nothing more than a war hungry death-loving fascist. How quick you are to send out precious young men and women into a war, and subsequent occupation, that is based 100% on lies and deceit. Then, when Democrats have the temerity to call the Republicans our on their hypocrisy, you jump up and down, and scream "Democrats don't support the troops!" or "Democrats aren't patriotic!"

Well Mr. Allard, here's a news flash: You don't support the troops. You are not a patriot. Voting to continue funding the occupation of Iraq in perpetuity does not mean you support the troops. Wearing a flag lapel pin, undoubtedly made in China, does not mean you are a patriot.

A patriot is someone who volunteers to place themselves in harms way to protect the Constitution of the United States. Supporting the troops means providing them with medical, mental and educational benefits when they complete their time in service, or God forbid, are injured in the line of duty. No, Mr. Allard you are no patriot.

If there is any justice in this world, you and all the other members of the House and Senate, who voted for this failed 'War on Terror' would find yourself facing a war crimes tribunal at The Hague. Given that this will most likely never happen, I am consoled by the fact that you will no longer represent the great citizens of Colorado in the United States Senate.

You, Mr. Allard, and the 22 other Republicans should hand your heads in shame, for your have undoubtedly betrayed your country.
